What Bizcap lends

Bizcap is an online business lender with several products. Fast loans and lines of credit range from $5,000 to $500,000, while small business loans go up to $4 million. Secured loans, which need property as security, range from $30,000 to $4 million and come with longer terms. Bridging loans run from $150,000 to $4 million. Most Bizcap loans are short-term and have daily or weekly repayments.

How it prices loans

Bizcap gives each business its own factor rate and doesn't publish its usual range. To work out what you'll repay, multiply the loan by the factor rate: borrow $50,000 at 1.30 and you pay back $65,000, plus any establishment fee.

What that costs in real terms

Shorter terms and more frequent repayments push the real cost up. In the true cost calculator, $50,000 at a factor rate of 1.30 repaid weekly over 12 months is a true annual rate of about 54%. Repaid over 6 months, the same loan works out to about 107% a year.

Paying early

The cost of a factor rate loan is set when you sign, so paying it off early doesn't automatically save you money. Bizcap says you may get a discount for repaying early. Ask for the payout figure in writing before you decide.

Before you sign

Look at the establishment fee and how often you'll need to make repayments. Also check what security you need to provide. For loans over $30,000, Bizcap takes a charge over your business assets and any guarantors' assets, and can register this on the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR). Directors may also need to give a personal guarantee. Once you have this information, run the numbers through the calculator.
