# Business loan eligibility checker

> See how many New Zealand lenders publish criteria your business meets, from trading time and turnover to who can apply.

Use it in a browser at https://smallbusinessloan.co.nz/tools/lender-match, or call it through the site's MCP server at https://smallbusinessloan.co.nz/mcp.

## How this calculator works

The checker matches your answers with the criteria New Zealand business lenders publish on their websites: how long you've been trading, your monthly turnover, the amount you want to borrow and who is eligible. The checker also looks at whether a loan needs 12 months of accounts in Xero or MYOB, property as security or invoices sent on terms.

The main number tells you how many lenders could consider your business, and it's made up of two groups. The first group is lenders whose published criteria your business meets. Each lender is counted once, based on the loan that suits you best. The second group is lenders that only publish a loan size, or nothing at all, and review each business case by case. They're counted if the amount you want fits their lending range.

Below the number, you'll see the loan sizes, trading history and turnover the first group of lenders asks for. Brokers aren't included, because they arrange loans with other lenders.

Meeting a lender's published criteria doesn't guarantee approval. Lenders also look at your credit history, your bank statements and how you plan to use the money. The criteria were last checked on 6 November 2026.

## Common questions

### What is the easiest business loan to get in New Zealand?

Online lenders have the lowest published requirements. FundTap's invoice finance looks for about 3 months of trading and more than $5,000 a month in revenue, but only if you invoice customers who pay later. Bizcap needs 4 months of trading and $12,000 a month, and can give a conditional offer without a credit check. Prospa looks for 6 months and $6,000 a month. The easiest loans can cost more, so check the true cost before you sign.

### Can I get a business loan with less than 6 months of trading?

Yes, but your options are more limited. Bizcap's fast and small loans need 4 months of trading, and FundTap looks for about 3 months. Westpac's start-up lending is for businesses under 2 years old and asks for a business plan and cash forecast instead of two years of accounts. Kiwibank's StartUp+ can lend up to $150,000 to innovative early-stage businesses.

### Can a sole trader get a business loan?

Yes. BNZ's QuickBiz accepts sole traders with 12 months of reconciled accounts, and FundTap also funds invoices for sole traders. Prospa, Bizcap and ScotPac don't publish any limit on business structure. Kiwibank's Fast Capital is only for directors of limited companies.

### Will checking my eligibility affect my credit score?

No. This checker doesn't run a credit check. Lenders check your credit when you apply, but some, like Prospa and Bizcap, can give you a quote or a conditional offer before that.
